Hervey Bay Esplanade Master Plan
Fraser Coast Regional Council
#Overview
Plan C are working with Lat27 and Fraser Coast Regional Council to engage with the Traditional Owners, Butchulla People, and other stakeholders to identify aspirations and priorities for the future of the Hervey Bay Esplanade.
The Esplanade at Hervey Bay is a significant asset to the region, providing an important connection between World Heritage-Listed K’gari (Fraser Island), the mainland and the sea. Council had already undertaken significant engagement over the previous few years with the community about the future of the Esplanade so Plan C’s initial focus for engagement is internally with Council staff and with Butchulla Native Title Aboriginal Corporation, business owners and other key stakeholders. Plan C will undertake broader community engagement on the draft master plan.
#Key Outcomes Achieved
Preparation of a Communications and Engagement Plan
Internal workshops with Council officers to understand current use, future needs and existing issues and site constraints from the perspective of all relevant operational areas of Council
Site visit with BNTAC Directors and Butchulla Elders to ensure traditional owner aspirations and opportunities are identified and reflected in the master plan and to ensure the design is appropriate for cultural values and sensitivities on and around the Esplanade.
