#Overview
Plan C engaged with Traditional Owners and broader Aboriginal stakeholders, organisations and community to identify interests and aspirations to inform the LGMS and new Planning Scheme for the City of Gold Coast.
The work represents one of the most extensive Indigenous engagement processes for the development of a new planning scheme in South-east Queensland. The project involved synthesising the engagement outcomes with a technical analysis of national and international integrations of First People's aspirations in planning schemes, and developing a series of outcome areas and a policy position.
The policy position paper outlines the proposed strategic position of the City in elevating Traditional Owner and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ aspirations and interests in the new Planning Scheme to ensure a vibrant, inclusive and resilient urban environment and enrich the Gold Coast way of life.
#Methodology
The engagement approach prioritised face-to-face engagement through workshops and participatory methods, supported by clear and transparent communication throughout. This allowed participants to share their views in a culturally appropriate environment and contribute directly to the City’s long-term growth planning.
