Integrating social outcomes into the redevelopment of a major site in Southport, Queensland.



Outcomes


  • Identified social impacts and opportunities for the redevelopment of the existing Gold Coast Hospital site and the relocation of hospital services
  • Identified the existing and future needs for community infrastructure in Southport by comparing provision against standards of service, which were supported by the findings of consultation with key stakeholders
  • Provided clear and concise recommendations for the Structure Plan to address in the redevelopment of the Gold Coast Hospital Site

Process

Gold Coast Hospital (GCH) is located on a 4.5 hectare site bounded by Nerang Street, High Street and Queen Street at Southport.

Demographic analysis for the Southport community was compared to the City of Gold Coast and the state of Queensland as a whole.

Auditing existing social and community infrastructure in and around Southport, and identifying a need for local and district level community meeting rooms, neighbourhood centres and youth centres.

Direct phone interviews carried out with 25 key stakeholders, including state and local governments, health care providers, community and youth service providers, housing services and real estate agents.
