Glenorchy City Council (2016)

Glenorchy Multicultural Community Spaces Plan

Identifying solutions to meet the needs of different multicultural groups for spaces and facilities that would support their community, cultural and religious activities.

  • A prioritised action plan, based on 12 key success factors to achieve the needs and desires of the three target groups.
  • A partnership between local council (space provision), State Government (operations funding), Federal Government (supporting services provision) and the multicultural sector (brokering outcomes) to establish the first Multicultural community hub in Tasmania to prioritise support for newly arrived migrants.

key success factors

  • A thorough background review and initial consultation to understand the current reality of multicultural groups, services and spaces.
  • Establishment of three target groups (emerging and newly arrived migrants; young people; established multicultural groups) to identify the varying needs of each group.
  • An audit of existing community/multicultural facilities.
  • Engagement of the three target groups through five consultation programs that engaged 91 participants in total, representing approximately 24 different multicultural groups.
